Rutabaga

(Brassica napus var. napobrassica)

Brassicaceae family

Rutabagas belong to the mustard family, being close relatives of turnips. Their chromosome number is 2n=4x=38 (AACC genomes of Brassica). It is a close relative of canola, a commercially-important oilseed rape. Although not very popular in the US, rutabagas are traditionally quite popular in northern Europe due to their ability to store for long periods of time.
