Blackberries, or black raspberries, are native to eastern North America. The plant is a diploid (2n=14). Their seed are dispersed in nature by birds. Commercially, they can be propagated by various cutting methods or, usually, by replanting suckers with attached roots. They are closely related to, and interfertile with, red raspberries (R. idaeus).
